John Kitchen has worked in the microwave industry since 1982 firstly for Marconi Space and Defence specialising in waveguide Gunn oscillators operating from 20GHz to 60GHz.

Then he moved to Plessey Microwave initially for waveguide Gunn oscillators before designing a new range of Octave bandwidth FET oscillators operating from 6GHz to 18GHz. The eventual target of a single monotonic varactor tuned oscillator operating over the full 6-18GHz band was not achieved, but these were the first octave bandwidth varactor tuned oscillators to be designed and manufactured in this band.

After Plessey Microwave a 3 year stint in UK sales for Alpha Industries provided exposure to the wider market and many more people as well providing useful experience working with Ferrite and Dielectric materials.

In 1992 John set up SJ Technologie to provide specific solutions to meet customer requirements rather than try to sell what was “in the catalogue”. Almost every component now supplied by SJ Technologie is specific to the customer that it is delivered to.
